Ros shows excellence in tool making and plastics processing. Customers and renowned representatives of the professional world have both praised and honoured our performance and innovation capacity.
In 2019, Ros was awarded in the category Power Train by SPE. This year, Ros achieved 2nd place with the rotary valve, which is used to controll the volume flow in the thermal management module.
The SPE Automotive Award
The Automotive Division Award, which SPE Central Europe, Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers Inc., has been announcing on a half-yearly basis since 1992, is well-known in the industry for its high quality of submissions and objective evaluation criteria. The competition has been and continues to be supported by many companies, and this year's awards went to A. Schulman, Albis Plastic, Celanese, DSM Engineering Plastics, EMS Chemicals, GRAFE and KraussMaffei Technologies.
Awarded product:
Housing of a thermostat module
Task:
Realization of a one-piece component that is suitable for economical production despite the highly complex component geometry.
Solution:
At the beginning, the component consisted of two individual parts - Ros adapted the component so that it could be manufactured in one piece within a reliable process. For this purpose, Ros adapted the component geometry for a functional demolding concept and made it possible to manufacture it within one injection molding tool. This creates an optimal temperature control of the inner core despite the transverse inner slide. Despite the most complex tool technology, the component can be manufactured without burrs or offset.
Awarded product:
Rotary valve
Task:
Development of a concept to map the volume flow in the thermal management module reliable.
Solution:
The innovation lies in the development of a multi-part concept with different materials and suitable joining processes, with which the required precision can be reliably produced.
The spherical shape which is required for sealing had to be represented as ideally as possible in plastic. The ball rests against a seal and controls the circulation of the cooling medium depending on the position of the rotary valve. Any deviation from the ideal spherical shape leads to a deterioration in the efficiency of the thermal management module, which has a negative impact on CO2 emissions. The spherical geometry was optimized in terms of shrinkage through a uniform wall thickness. The position of the ball in relation to the axis of rotation and the toothed adjustment segment is also very tightly tolerated.
In order to achieve the required precision in the assembly part, the bearing point of the axis of rotation, which is important for the function of the component, is milled in a process with the joining of the two components, rotary slide valve and toothed segment unit.
Ros GmbH & Co. KG was twice awarded with the SPE Automotive Award. Once in the category parts & components as category winner Power Train (drive) and with the Grand Award with the highest score across all groups. Both times the thermostat housing OM654.

The Ros GmbH & Co. KG has been honored by Brose with the Innovation Award Europe. The award was presented during the Innovation and Technology Days 2017 at Brose in Bamberg. With this price tje international automotive supplier Brose honors the innovative strength, cooperation and implementation speed of its suppliers. Ros has been honored for the excellent cooperation in the development and implementation of a new technology of Long-Glass-Fibre-Direct-Compounding.
Awarded product:
Housing for the thermal management module for 4-cylinder diesel engines in the Daimler Group
Scope:
Plastic-compatible conversion of a housing, which accommodates all components of a thermostat in the given installation space and at the same time maintains the positioning of the nozzles as prescribed by the motor construction.
Solution:
In order to reconcile the manufacturing-related feasibility and the tool-technical manufacturability, Ros built a single injection molding tool which uses 18 individually controlled contours, sliders and / or core pullers. This high number was necessary in order to be able to implement an ideal temperature control despite the complexity, which enables the desired cycle time to be reached. Contours, geometric transitions and in particular, the areas of the shaving splinters have been modified in such a way that sharp edges which are wear-resistant and fracture-susceptible due to the abrasive glass-fiber-reinforced PPS material used are largely avoided.
Ros has been honoured by Brose Fahrzeugteile GmbH & Co. KG as one of three global companies in the field of plastics processing with the title "Key Supplier 2016".
The award honours the best international suppliers of the Brose Group in the categories material quality, partnership, future orientation, innovation, performance and reliability of supply.
Awarded product:
Impeller for the coolant pump for 1,2- and 1,4-liter engines in the VW Group
Scope:
Plastics-oriented implementation of an impeller made of PPS, which has a high capacity and connected to a previously unachieved efficiency. Restrictive condition here were very small dimensions with respect to the outer diameter and the component height.
Solution:
The challenge for Ros was mainly in the tool engineering implementation and in the realization of the demoulding of extreme undercuts on the component. For this purpose, Ros has created a new demoulding concept adapted to the geometric design of the component, converted it into the tool and transferred the component to serial production.
Awarded product:
Coolant pump housing for 6-cylinder ottomotors in the Daimler Group
Scope:
Substitution of an already existing pump housing, produced by the aluminum die-casting process, for accommodating the water pump bearing. In order to increase environmental compatibility, the reduction of the component weight and the associated fuel consumption was the top priority. Likewise, the process adopted also had to be cost advantageous for the customer.
Solution:
Ros developed a solution of thermosetting resin, a material which ensured the required technical characteristics. In close co-operation with the customer, the component was designed in such a way that ultimately a total weight saving of more than 33% and thus a considerable cost reduction could be achieved.
Awarded product:
Impeller for the coolant pump for the 1.8-liter engine in the Audi Group
Scope:
Plastic-compatible conversion of a closed impeller according to the customer's specified geometry.
Solution:
For the first time, Ros converted a closed impeller made of PPS material in its own tool shop and transferred it to serial production.
Awarded product:
Electronic housing in the door system
Scope:
Functional integration of the housing and sealing components, which were previously manually installed by the customer, into a complete component that can be produced in one injection process.
Solution:
Ros produced the component and achieved significat cost savings for the customer through the elimination of the assembly process to the customer.
